Description

Hands on ½ day clinic on how to make a farriers straight blade knife with Spud Allison. All work can be completed with the tools and equipment that are in most farriers vans. This day can be held at your own venue or at Spuds forge in Warwickshire. Ideal for a small group who want to learn new skills.

Each stage will be demonstrated and you will take home your own bespoke knife at the end of the day. Stages will consist of:

  • Blade profiling to your favourite style

  • Hook and curve to what you prefer

  • Handle application

  • Sharpening technique

  • Polish and finish

Either bring along or have an idea of the size and design of knife that you'd like to make.

There will be equipment provided, however here are some things you should bring along with you if possible:

  • Idea of the design of knife you'd like to make

  • Either your farriery work van or come along with a colleague in theirs

  • Hammer for forging

  • Tongs to hold thin gauge steel (1/4" or 2mm)

  • 6' angle grinder with cutting disc and a flap disc

  • Safety glasses and boots
