Description

Are you an ATF struggling to find the time in the forge or to make shoes at the horse with your apprentice? Are you working towards a farriery goal of your own and in need of some guidance?

This is a great opportunity to learn from one of the best farriers around on a days shoeing and shoemaking clinic with ‘live horses’ rather than cadavers at his home forge in Warwickshire.

These days are really small numbers and for only 2 people maximum.

Aimed at every level from apprentices and basic shoemaking techniques up to advanced level. The day would suit anyone practising for a farriery goal or purely for self improvement.

The day will be working on live horses. It can be totally flexible and tailored to individual requirements but will generally consist of:

  • Static and dynamic assesment

  • Shoemaking techniques to make fitting easier

  • Any style of shoe and fit thats required

  • Material calculation

  • Foot dressing techniques and how to avoid mistakes

  • Nail and clench…whats best and what scores points?

If you're struggling with a technique then Spud will help to break it down, simplify it and help you to improve.

For anyone who doesn't know Spud and what a great educator he is, heres a bio;

Spud

Spud started his apprenticeship in 1982, with his dad, the extremely successful and world renowned farriery Tom Allison in the famous forge in Stonleigh.

In 1991 he set up his own business in the Stratford Upon Avon area, shoeing a wide range of horses and ponies, from riding school to dressage, show jumpers and eventers.

Over the years, he's been lucky enough to shoe for Ferdi Eilberg, Ted Edgar, Nick Skelton, Laura Kraut, Emily Moffat, Lorenzo De Luca and Dan Skelton racing, to name a few! He also shod BIg Star for Nick Skelton for the London Olympics where he won the gold medal.

Over the last 35 years he has enjoyed competing, representing England for 14 years in the farrier team. He's been Royal Show Champion, National Champion and National Hunter Shoeing Champion, as well as European Champion just to name a few.

As well as his own very impressive accolades, he has passed on his skills through training numerous apprentices who have gone on to be very successful in the farriery world, many representing their countries on the international farriery teams including his son Henri.

Spud and Henri

Through his own style of mentorship, many top class farriers world wide would also credit Spud as a huge influence in their farriery careers after spending time with him.

He's a WCF judge and has just judged the World Championships at Spruce Meadows. In short….he knows his stuff and can help you to become the best version of yourself.
