Foundation Shoemaking and Fitting Techniques Clinic Series

Build the essential skills and confidence needed to begin your journey in handmade horseshoe production. This foundation course is designed for farriers who want to strengthen their forging techniques and develop a solid understanding of traditional shoemaking principles.

Throughout the course, you will learn the core processes involved in creating well-balanced, functional horseshoes from raw steel. Under the guidance of experienced tutors, you’ll develop practical skills through hands-on forging sessions, demonstrations, and individual feedback.

Topics covered will include:

  • Tool selection, maintenance, and correct use

  • Measuring and fitting principles

  • Drawing clips

  • Fullering techniques

  • Turning heels and branches

  • Forging balanced front and hind shoes
